EXPERIENCE FLORIDA’S SPORTS COAST HOSTS FEATURE HORROR FILM PRODUCTION, DEATH CAST

Destination Management Organization works to grow film industry and economic development in Pasco County

PASCO COUNTY, FL – March 5, 2020 – Experience Florida’s Sports Coast is celebrating its one-year anniversary by expanding its brand portfolio to include film production. In addition to meeting planners and sports tourism, Florida’s Sports Coast is taking active measures to attract potential film projects to the destination like the recent feature horror film, Death Cast.

Death Cast, a film about six young, hopeful actors looking to land roles in an experimental horror film, was predominately filmed about 90 percent in Pasco County.

“Finding the perfect locations for a script is an enormous task and an often-lengthy process,” said Death CastProducer, Melissa McNerney. “Bobby (the director) and I spent weeks driving the roads of Pasco County, scouting locations and collecting cards from local businesses and residents who were eager to learn how they could help us with the film. Involving the community in the filmmaking process invites people into the process and helps to build excitement, particularly when it’s happening in their own backyard.”

Gaby LaJeunesse, film commissioner for Experience Florida’s Sports Coast, understands the importance of making the destination an attractive location for directors and producers as well as the economic impact each film production stands to bring to Pasco County.

“Once we’re chosen as the filming destination, we’re then hosting full film crews who need places to sleep, eat and shop for needed supplies which means putting money directly back into our local communities. We want to make the destination as attractive to producers as possible and that includes waiving permit fees and going above and beyond to meet their needs before they commit to filming in Florida’s Sports Coast and even once they’re here on location.”

The effort of LaJeunesse has paid off according to McNerney. “Partnering with Florida’s Sports Coast was an essential part of our process, particularly with our permitting requests including access to public parks. When our production had a need, FSC was always a phone call away.”
