This season, visitors and locals alike can enjoy one of Florida’s most beloved summer pastimes- scalloping– while helping preserve this unique coastal tradition. Thanks to an exciting partnership with Florida Sea Grant and the University of Florida IFAS Extension, Scallop Sorter tools are available right here in Pasco County to support scallop conservation efforts.
These easy-to-use, waterproof tools are designed to help scallopers quickly identify and return smaller scallops- those under two inches, that haven’t had the chance to reproduce. While there’s currently no minimum size regulation, giving younger scallops the opportunity to mature helps protect our coastal ecosystem and keeps the scallop beds healthy for future seasons.
Scalloping in Pasco County runs from July 10th through August 18th, and it’s a favorite summer adventure for families and outdoor lovers alike. All you need is a charter, a snorkel mask, fins, and a mesh bag for your catch!
