Florida’s Sports Coast among Leading Destinations to Host 2019 Sunshine State Games

Pasco County, Fla. (May 7, 2019) – Florida’s Sports Coast is leading the way to become one of the top sporting destinations within the state hosting four out of 35 upcoming  Sunshine State Games (SSG) championship tournaments , the second most of any destination within Florida.

The Sunshine State Games, an annual amateur sports tradition in Florida, is part of the state’s $57.4 billion sports industry and is presented annually by the Florida Sports Foundation (FSF), the state’s lead sports promotion and development organization, and a division of Enterprise Florida, Inc.

“Exceptional teamwork among Experience Florida’s Sports Coast, Florida Sports Foundation and some of our best sports venues created this opportunity that will highlight the best we have to offer when it comes to sporting events,” said Consuelo Sanchez, Sports Development & Tourism Manager. “We’re excited to host the games for a second year and to be the first destination in 17 years to host SSG’s ice hockey championship, thanks to AdventHealth Center Ice.”

Friday, May 17 will kick off the SSG tournament calendar for Florida’s Sports Coast with over 300 athletes competing in the figure skating championships at AdventHealth Center Ice in Wesley Chapel and an additional 175 athletes and counting competing in the Taekwondo championship that same weekend at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School in Spring Hill.

“Florida’s Sports Coast is thrilled to be the host destination for such prestigious sporting events that exhibit the level of talent and athleticism within our statewide sporting community,” said Tourism Director, Adam Thomas, CDME.
